Linguistic Methods of Intergenerational Dialogue Construction in the Prose of E. Vodolazkin

This article considers one of the leading writer’s settings, artistic construction intergenerational dialogue, with reference to E. Vodolazkin’s novels Solovyov and Larionov, Laurus, Aviator, Brisbane. dialogue includes both characters fiction texts, representatives different generations (contemporaries in general, young people, Soviet pre-Soviet period, even much older times Russia’s existence), their readers. The first stage study examines specific narrative strategies that can be attributed idiostyle which carry out intertemporal communication. It focuses on hesitant narrator, i.e., although non-diegetic, but not quite “reliable” omniscient author; echoing ego two or three characters; situations when narrator’s speech part merges consciousness main character, who, turn, by virtue storyline, penetrates spiritual world his direct conditional ancestor. second analyses linguistic proper for neutralising generational conflicts, support above strategies. Such techniques include a variety ways approximating crossing communicative boundaries: contact repetition symbolism character’s name, use bilingualism (characters easily master languages, reader does need footnotes), introduction figure translator (an assistant overcoming language barriers), interpretation agnonyms (obsolete religious vocabulary, archaic forms), anachronisms various kinds (literary cultural allusions, hidden quotations from texts unfamiliar described era).
